Aside from broken phones, another side effect of starting running was a completely knackered ankle. Apparently it takes a while for your muscles and tendons to acclimatise to running three times a week when you haven’t exercised properly in about 15 years.

After hobbling about for a couple of weeks I went to see a nurse at the walk-in centre who basically told me I’d just have to deal with it until it sorted itself out.

Ibuprofen as often as I could was the only thing to get me through these dark dark days
